There’s more to media than meets the eye…

People imagine that being in the media is glamorous. It’s a world of well made-up presenters and rich directors such as Spielberg and Cameron, living an exciting life where they wake up in the morning, get their creation going and go to bed happy and healthy at night.

To a point this is true. For those of us in or breaking in to the media industry, every day can be fun and exciting because we are doing something that we really enjoy.

But rarely is it an easy job. You don’t just walk in front of a camera and say your lines, and the majority of the time you are living in grimy hotels eating pork pies from the garage on the corner.

There are also a lot of people in the background of the industry. There are the people involved in pre and post-production. The industry partially hides their presence and in ‘behind the scenes’ documentaries, tends to concentrate on how it is filmed.

I am not going to do that. I aim to bring the making of “Without a Diagnosis” straight to you from pre to post and in between.

It was independent. I researched it, I shot it, I edited it. I voiced it, I mixed the audio, I created the website, did the social media promotions and uploaded it. So if, through this blog, I can enlighten you to process of making an independent documentary, then I have done my job well.

Enjoy.
